Overview
Ballinsloe Training and Education Centre was established in 1977 and has been serving age 16+ male and female (2008) Probation referrals and young people at risk. The Centre is run by a Board of Management in partnership with the Probabtion Sevice, Fás, Co. Galway VEC and the local community.
The Department of Justice, County Galway V.E.C. and FÁS work in partnership to facilitate the programmes.
The aim of the Centre is to enhance the educational opportunities of the participants, thereby enabling progression to further education and employment.

Our Mission Statement is to enable positive change in attitudes and behaviour to take place in the lives of learners and those at risk of offending. It is a place where people are given a real chance to make a fresh start and where a person is given an opportunity to address personal issues and have a new furure. Respect for self, others and responsibility for one's actions embodies the ethos of the centre.

Overall Aim / Target Group
To enable prosocial change in attitudes and behaviour to take place in the lives of offenders and those at risk of offending.
Specific Aim
- To enable offenders to re-intergrate in to society through the provision of training and employment opportunities.
- To provide personal development training programmes and FETAC level 3 modules to enhance positive change in the behaviour of offenders.
- To reduce re-offending through the provision of alcohol and substance misuse awareness programmes, supported by other appropriate workshops and one to one sessions.
Objectives
- To offer a FETAC Level 3 Major Award in Vocational skills over a two year period with an age profile of 16+ and tailored to the needs of each person through an individual Learning Plan.
- To provide a Work Preparation module aligned to work experience with an appropriate employer.
- To provide core modules in Personal & Interpersonal skills and Communications
- To develop restorative community projects with the tidy towns and others including annual open days and ongoing community activities.
- To run alcohol and substance misuse awareness programmes, provide workshops and one to one sessions.
- To provide where possible, creative and flexible learning programmes to bring about behavioural change and to combat recidivism for 80% probation learners and 20% of learners at risk.

Overview of Service / Programmes & Certification Offered:
The T.C.T.C. project was established in 1987 following a survey, which highlighted the connection between those who are educationally disadvantaged and those who are excluded from employment opportunities. The aim of the Centre is to foster the personal development of participants thus enabling them to avail of opportunities in open employment, of further formal training and education.
The Department of Justice, County Galway V.E.C. and FÁS jointly fund the project.
As well as the subjects outlined above the Centre also offers Heavy Plant & Machinery Course, Safe Pass, Manual Handling and Abrasive Wheels. Counselling Services, Career Guidance, Preparation for Work C.V.s and job placement are provided by the Linkage Programme.
Co. Galway V.E.C. provides tuition hours in a number of subjects.

Participants wishing to return to second chance Education/Training.

- Fully equipped modern Centre, using the latest technology and training methods.
- Staffed by trained, experienced V.E.C. teachers and instructors.
